Evodia mimics the characteristic anti-obese effects of capsaicin, the active compound in spicy foods, without the subsequent gastrointestinal irritation or discomfort that often results from the ingestion of these hot foods.

Evodia induces heat loss and heat production, while simultaneously diffusing food energy. This process prevents the accumulation of perivisceral (abdominal) fat. A recent study demonstrated that when Evodia was fed to mice for 12 days, supplemented at 0.03 % of the diet, the perivisceral fat became significantly lower than in the control group.
